This is LyriCue, the audio lyrics prompter.
LyriCue reads your lyrics out loud one line at a time in its own voice, separate from VoiceOver, so it sounds and works the same whether VoiceOver is on or off. Adjust how long each spoken line is, from short phrases to longer chunks, whatever fits whether you're learning, practicing, or performing.
Advance to the next or previous line with a one-finger swipe, an on-screen touch control, or a Bluetooth foot pedal, so your hands stay free for your instrument. Any pedal that acts like a keyboard works, sending page up/down, arrow keys, or enter/space, and which keys LyriCue listens for can be changed in settings. A basic Bluetooth page-turning pedal, the inexpensive kind sold for reading sheet music on a tablet, is a reliable way to get started if you don't already have one.
LyriCue understands ChordPro files, which are available all over the internet or which an AI assistant can prepare for you. Turn on spoken chord names to hear the chord announced right before the word it lands on, or turn them off and just hear the lyrics. A "line breaks with chords" mode can also force a new line at every chord change, handy while you're still learning a song.
LyriCue tries to figure out what language a song's lyrics are in and automatically picks a matching voice for it, so a Spanish or Portuguese song doesn't get read with English pronunciation rules. This depends on already having that language's voice downloaded on your phone (Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices) — if you don't, the song just falls back to your regular default voice instead, so it never gets stuck either way. If it guesses wrong, or a song mixes more than one language, you can force it by adding a line anywhere in the song's text that just says {lang: Spanish} (or French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Ukrainian) — it's never read aloud, just used to pick the voice.
Build a setlist ahead of time and jump between songs without missing a beat. Everything works fully offline once it's loaded, and syncs to Dropbox in the background as a backup when you're connected, so a weak signal at the venue never gets in the way of a show.
Paste lyrics directly, import a text file, dictate a song straight from your phone, or connect your own Dropbox to pull songs in automatically. ChordPro files are supported too.
Every control has a clear, consistent spoken label, and adjustable controls work with a simple swipe up or down instead of repeated tapping. This isn't an app with accessibility added on afterward. It was built by a blind musician for blind musicians first, and works just as well for anyone else.
The confirmation beep that plays when a line advances can be turned off in Voice settings if you'd rather not hear it. There are really two levels of hints to know about, and turning both off is what gives the quietest, most interruption-free experience.
The first is LyriCue's own: once you know your way around a control, you can turn off its spoken usage tip, so you just hear the label and the current value without the reminder each time. The second is VoiceOver's own separate Hints setting (Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Verbosity > Speak Hints), which reads a usage tip after every control's label in every app, not just LyriCue. It's a system-wide setting, so turning it off makes your whole phone quieter, not just LyriCue. If you'd rather leave it on elsewhere and only turn it off while using LyriCue, add Hints to your VoiceOver Rotor (Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Rotor) so it's one quick swipe away whenever you want to switch it on or off.
LyriCue doesn't track you, doesn't show ads, and doesn't sell your data. Your songs live on your device and, if you choose to connect it, in your own Dropbox. Never on our servers.
